Coaching
You may be:
• Facing changes or complexity
• Leading others
• Considering your next step
• Feeling stuck or seeking greater clarity and confidence
• Simply needing space to think
I have spent years supporting people in complex, difficult and uncertain situations, helping them make sense of what they’re facing and find a way forward.
My coaching conversations involve:
• Working through change or transition
• Finding clarity before taking action
• Rebuilding confidence in direction or judgement
• Moving on from feeling stuck, uncertain or overwhelmed
My role is not to direct or advise, but to listen deeply, reframe complexities without minimising and help people find clarity when things are not simple.
Outdoor coaching
As a qualified Mountain Leader, I also offer coaching in outdoor environments where appropriate. Many people find that natural surroundings, rather than an office or a screen, can support a whole new range of reflections and fresh perspectives.
Sessions scheduled to suit. Free introductory sessions available.
How I work
My role is to create a calm, steady space where thoughts can be unpacked without judgement or pressure. A large part of my experience comes from working in conversations where people are under emotional or personal strain and where being heard clearly can make a real difference.
In practice, this means:
• Listening carefully and without agenda
• Reflecting and reframing what I hear
• Seeing patterns and perspectives more clearly
• Identifying what’s important amid competing demands
• Taking the next step, rather than solving everything at once
• Working at your pace, not mine
About Me
My experience spans software, IT, engineering, legal, pharmaceutical, retail, financial services, agriculture, education and the charity sector. Over the years, this work has included designing learning approaches, developing and delivering programmes, working with stakeholders at all levels and supporting organisations through change.
Alongside this, I have spent over a decade working in a role that involves listening to people in complex, often emotionally difficult situations. This has shaped my ability to stay present and focused in conversations where things are not straightforward. I also train and mentor new volunteers entering this work, helping them develop confidence in listening and holding space for others.
I also teach music, and I am a qualified Mountain Leader with experience in climbing, kayaking, running and cycling in different environments across the world.
A cairn doesn't point the way forward, but it confirms you're not lost. Cairn Practice is based on this idea - coaching that is positive, attentive and focused on helping people find clarity in real-world challenges.
Learning Consultancy

• Leadership development
• Supporting organisational change
• Developing learning culture and capability
• Programme design and facilitation
• Project support
My focus is on helping organisations think clearly and practically about how people learn and perform in real working environments.
